Waverley, NSW Swap & Wash Single-Use Takeout Container Waste
Council officials recruited seven eateries in Bondi for the three-month pilot. Patrons receive meals in Mealboxes during their first orders in the trial period. Restaurants and cafes exchange sanitized Mealboxes for returned Mealboxes, thus eliminating container waste and costs. Each box is made from recycled plastic collected by local startup rePlated. Waverley anticipates a reduction of 437 kilograms of plastic waste and four tons of carbon emissions during the pilot.
