London Borough of Hackney, GB Living Rent initiative takes new approach to council-owned housing
London Borough of Hackney, GB Living Rent Council Housing
Hackney Living Rent acquires multi-family homes for conversion into subsidized apartments. A council-owned nonprofit manages each property and guarantees long-term affordability. Monthly rents are limited to one-third of average local incomes and tenants make less than £60,000 per year. Purchased properties in Lower Clapton and Homerton have been turned into 24 modern apartments. The program focuses on private property purchases and works alongside a commitment to newly built council homes.
