Adelaide, SA manages foot traffic and public health with iTouch contactless crosswalk pilot

Adelaide, SA iTouch Crosswalk Pilot Traffic Public Health

Complete

City officials worked with Aldridge Traffic Systems to add iTouch signal activators on Melbourne Street. iTouch allows a pedestrian to activate a walk signal with a hand wave. Adelaide automated crosswalk signals for daytime use at the outset of COVID-19. The council approved the iTouch pilot in response to resident feedback about automated signal timing. Adelaide evaluated the traffic impacts of iTouch prior to discussions about citywide adoption.
