Complete

The City of Denver's Community Planning and Development department partnered with Mapita Oy to develop an online survey using their Maptionnaire platform. The interactive online mapping questionnaire collected geo-located information from residents about their vision for Denver, how they travel, where they live, and what amenities they want in their area. Residents were able to indicate their preferences, complaints, and ideas by dropping pins on a map of the city.

The City of Denver Invests in Digital Participation — Maptionnaire | Community Engagement Platform

The City and County of Denver hosts a diverse community, it is economically strong and growing quickly. In order to facilitate growth while maintaining components that people feel positive about, Denver initiated a citywide planning effort to capture the goals and needs of current residents and the people who are coming tomorrow. In 2016, Denver launched Denveright, a two-year-long citywide effort for land use, mobility, and parks and recreation. This project has led to fruitful cooperation between the city’s Community Planning and Development department and Maptionnaire as one goal for the project was to increase opportunities for participation with online methods.

Project Succeeded

The mapping questionnaire received 1,008 responses which indicated that respondents wanted additional transportation options and preferred living in urban contexts over suburban contexts. Respondents also described their vision for the future of city which included car-free zones, bike-friendly infrastructure, a complete rail network, and well-connected neighborhoods. The City of Denver now uses the Maptionnaire service in all of its planning projects.
