New York, NY initiates pilot responding to non-violent 911 calls with Mental Health Teams

New York, NY Mental Health Team Pilot Non-Violent 911

In Progress

The pilot deploys teams with EMS responders from FDNY and mental health clinicians to 911 calls in two neighborhoods. Mental Health Teams assist residents in need of psychological support rather than emergency room trips. Emergency calls involving weapons include a police presence though the Mental Health Teams are the primary responders. New York City receives approximately 170,000 911 calls involving mental health issues per year.
