Redland, QLD plans an organic waste program to keep Karragarra Island waste close to home

Redland, QLD Karragarra Island Community Organic Waste

Planning

Participants will drop food and garden waste at the Karragarra Community Garden during the three-month pilot. Council officials and project partners are building a solar-powered composting system for the garden. This eco-friendly system generates zero emissions when creating forced aeration flows. Island residents will be surveyed before, during, and after to determine program effectiveness. Karragarra Island hopes to reduce 235 tons of food waste sent to landfills each year.
