Tampa, FL experiments with suspended ion exchange for water treatment in one-year pilot
Tampa, FL Suspended Ion Exchange Water Treatment Pilot
This first-in-the-United States pilot is taking place at the David L. Tippin Water Treatment Facility. The SIE process uses resin early in the treatment process to remove impurities. The city's Water Department will evaluate SIE's impact on water quality, smell, and color. This pilot also determines how frequently resin will be replaced and challenges for citywide adoption. Tampa could save $4 million per year by removing chemicals from the treatment process.
