City officials are using existing fiber lines to provide 4G LTE services to 32,000 households. The network transmits on an unlicensed spectrum band from 40 towers across a range of 44 square miles. The first phase of municipal 4G connects 1,000 low-income households with children to remote schooling, telehealth, and work. Tucson plans enhanced connectivity in public places and mobile phone service in the later stages of the project.
