Chattanooga has launched a new GIS Map Viewer that replaces an older platform and is estimated to save the city $17,000 a year. The interactive map includes layers such as zoning districts, neighborhood associations, public safety information, land ownership and city services, and adds 3D modeling, tree canopy mapping created with UTC, a "Near-Me" widget, historic data from 2016 onward and layers connected to live service data.

Windsor, ON launches Umo mobile fare payment system for Transit Windsor
Transit Windsor launched the Umo fare management system on Oct. 5, 2026, letting riders buy digital passes, add funds, check balances, plan trips and get real-time transit information in the free Umo Mobility app, or pay with a reloadable Umo card or cash. The $3.53 million project received federal and provincial funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

Montgomery County has launched Mo, a generative AI chatbot on its voter services website that answers basic election questions, such as polling locations and how to submit a mail ballot, 24/7 and in more than 70 languages. Built with Charleston, SC-based Citibot, Mo relies only on verified information from the voter services website and county GIS, and does not gather or store personal information.

Bellingham, WA launches drone as first responder program for 911 calls
The Bellingham Police Department is launching a grant-funded Drone as First Responder program: when 911 calls come in, a licensed pilot can send a drone from one of three docking stations (the police station, the city's public works campus and Bellis Fair mall) to assess the scene within minutes. A $475,417 state grant funds the program through 2028, and police will host a public flight dashboard online.

Oceanside, CA expands police Drone as First Responder program citywide
The Oceanside City Council unanimously approved expanding the police Drone as a First Responder program with a five-year, $682,556 contract with Axon for autonomous drone docking stations, including two Skydio drone-in-a-box units. During a 13-month pilot, the drone responded to about 1,300 calls, was first on scene in over 1,000, and cleared 392 calls without dispatching officers.

The City of Poughkeepsie launched PK Connect, a free iOS and Android app that lets residents report non-emergency problems, track progress and receive real-time updates. Detroit, MI pilots cloud-based traffic signal priority for fire trucks
The Detroit Fire Department teamed up with HAAS Alert and Miovision on a 90-day pilot at select intersections in Corktown, within the city's Transportation Innovation Zone, using cloud, GPS and cellular connectivity in fire trucks and at intersections to turn traffic lights green ahead of emergency vehicles. Pilots in smaller cities have shown a 70 percent reduction in crashes involving emergency vehicles and 25 percent faster arrivals to scenes.

Columbia, MO approves $41.8M smart meter program for electric and water utilities
Columbia City Council voted Sept. 21 to authorize a $41.8 million Advanced Metering Infrastructure program with Ameresco for its city-owned electric and water utilities. The project will replace 53,992 electric and 52,747 water meters, with equipment orders in October and installation beginning in spring 2027. City officials project more than $71 million in benefits over 15 years.
