Atlanta, GA plants edible trees at the Community Urban Food Forest to remedy food desert effects
Atlanta, GA Community Urban Food Forest Edible Trees
The 7.1-acre forest occupies disused farmland in the Browns Mill neighborhood. Local volunteers planted and maintain more than 2,200 trees with fruits, nuts, and vegetables free for public use. Parks department staff highlight the health, environmental, and aesthetic benefits of the farm during tours with school and community groups. City officials want to replicate this model to provide easy access to healthy food for 85% of Atlanta residents by 2022.
