Bay of Plenty Regional Council deployed hundreds of sticky dots throughout the Mount Industrial area to monitor fine dust particles. The sticky dots capture air samples which are used by the Council to identify potential contaminants. The Council installed these monitors in response to air quality concerns from local residents. The thirteen monitors cost the Council approximately $500,000 (NZD) annually.

Reducing air pollution in the Mount

A new, official airshed covering the Mount Maunganui industrial area will help Bay of Plenty Regional Council better manage air quality in the area – enabling tighter rules and consent decisions and a greater ability to manage industrial discharges.

Since being installed, the air quality monitors have detected six PM10 (fine dust) and four sulphur dioxide (SO2) exceedances.
