Richmond, Surrey, and Langley created the program to better use industrial capacity during COVID-19. A survey of local manufacturers resulted in an Industrial Capabilities Inventory for the production of pandemic-related supplies. Participating businesses accessed a toolkit for minimizing the risks of shifting to new markets and technologies. Technology Adoption Workshops demonstrated how manufacturers could survive the pandemic and thrive in its wake.

Categories like repairing household items and cutting food waste list these suggestions for easy retrieval. Residents add new ideas to the Hub with the Share Your Ideas form.

Richmond, BC is piloting a more sustainable form of road paving using 40% recycled asphalt
The City of Richmond partnered with Lafarge Canada to pilot a more sustainable form of road paving using higher levels of recycled asphalt. The city's High Recycled Asphalt Pavement Project has paved a section of local road stretching over 3.2 kilometers using 40% recycled material. The road will be closely monitored to address potential quality control challenges. The project was designed to produce confidence in roads paved using more than the previous 10% limit of recycled material.

The City of Richmond launched the Richmond Connects online hub to provide residents with recreational activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Users can enjoy virtual recreation activities designed for every age group related to sports, arts, and culture. Activities include Anti-Boredom Challenges for school-aged children, virtual tours of art galleries and cultural sites, live-streamed fitness classes, and links to resources from local agencies and organizations.

The City of Richmond proposed an Intelligent Operations Hub at its Smart Cities Ideas Fair as part of the national Smart Cities Challenge. The Intelligent Operations Hub would link data streams and assess management platforms across multiple agencies to improve the effectiveness of city responses in cases of minor disruptions or major emergencies. The city also intends to use the proposed hub to enhance community service delivery for residents

Richmond, BC "Let's Recycle Correctly!" campaign rewards residents for proper recycling practices
The City of Richmond launched the "Let's Recycle Correctly!" campaign to divert landfill waste and reduce contamination costs by educating residents on proper recycling. City recycling teams conduct random visual inspections of curb-side recycling and provide residents with customized tips. Residents receive a Report Card based on their inspection findings. Residents with positive results also receive a Richmond Recycling Expert Gold Star and free passes to city recreational facilities.

Richmond, BC launched Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes to encourage resident activity at local parks
The City of Richmond partnered with Vancouver Coastal Health and various community organisations to launch six Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes at its local parks. These playboxes were deployed as part of the city's Community Wellness Strategy to encourage outdoor physical activity. The playboxes provide park visitors with free access to outdoor toys and sports equipment. The playboxes require a code to be unlocked which can be obtained by calling the local school or community centre.
