Bega Valley worked with social media influencer Kate Flood on a series of videos about FOGO bin use. Short videos about what goes in and what stays out of green bins reinforce recent messaging by the NSW Environment Protection Authority. Compostable Kate also shares tips on keeping FOGO bins clean and odor-free during regular use. The project was funded by the state's Scrap Together program with videos posted across the council's social media pages.

Bega Valley uses a repurposed trailer as a collection vehicle for scheduled visits through the shire. Residents drop off batteries, solvents, and other hazardous items at the trailer for delivery to the main Community Recycling Centre. Council staffers identify recycling streams for each item including disassembling batteries for parts and fueling cement production with repurposed paint. The free program gained importance during COVID-19 due to increases in household waste.

Bega Valley, NSW protects village residents during heat waves with Cooler Places in a Warmer Climate
The council selected three villages sensitive to heat waves based on resident age and proximity to hospitals. This proposed project adds air-conditioned community refuges for residents unable to find relief at home. Bega Valley will power these refuges with solar panels and on-site batteries to cool without creating emissions. Council leaders and Kategic Solutions are using online surveys and in-person consultations to shape the pilot's final form.
