Kingston received £250,000 from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology's Smart Infrastructure Pilots initiative for the two-year trial. Boldyn Networks will install 10.4 kilometers of fiber-optic line in support of 20 smart columns throughout the borough. Each column enables Wi-Fi connectivity and high-quality CCTV images. Air quality and footfall sensors are among the customization options available with this technology.

Twenty-seven restaurants and cafes in the Surbiton neighborhood will participate in a trial of Limetrack technology. Participating businesses may save up to £6,000 per year through more efficient use of food, while the council diverts food waste from landfills.

Kingston Council launched a four-week trial in which parking enforcement officers are equipped with body worn video cameras. The body cameras are designed to assist with crime prevention, record incidents of abuse suffered by officers, and provide evidence of each officer's conduct. The data is encrypted on the devices, transferred to a dedicated secure storage facility, and is deleted after 90 days unless it is required for an investigation.
