Vancouver, BC protects biodiversity in John Hendry Park with region's first floating ecosystem
Vancouver, BC Biodiversity First Floating Ecosystem Park
Park patrons named biodiversity is an important goal during engagement sessions on park renewal. City officials deployed a floating ecosystem from Biomatrix Water on Trout Lake. There are native plants above and below the water line across 60 square meters of artificial island. Multiple surface layers allow birds, fish, and other local species sufficient space to thrive. The pilot started during the annual BlueTech Forum with the island offsetting the event's emissions.
