Auckland Council, NZ seeks long-term solutions for water issues with Citizens' Assembly Project
Auckland Council, NZ Citizens' Assembly Project Water Issues
Council utility Watercare and University of Auckland researchers began the project with workshops across four areas of the city. Thirty Watercare customers representative of the city's demographics shared their views about the local water supply. A 40-member Citizens' Assembly will work toward consensus on the question, "What should be the next source (or sources) of water for Auckland?" Project leaders support informed decisionmaking with policy and scientific briefs each Assembly session.
