Livingstone, QLD uses smart lighting pilot with Ergon Energy to protect turtle population
Livingstone, QLD Ergon Energy Smart Lighting Pilot Turtle
The six-month pilot replaces four streetlights on the Zilzie Esplanade with dimmable amber lights. Council staffers can remotely manage each light based on turtle migration patterns and human usage. Local residents are also encouraged to use low-volt flashlights during nighttime visits and reduce household lighting. Livingstone cuts down on lighting costs during the pilot while protecting turtles that are sensitive to man-made light.
