London, ON installs Canadian-first waste energy system at the Greenway Pollution Centre
London, ON Waste Energy System Greenway Pollution Centre
An Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system was integrated into the facility's sewage treatment processes. Steam produced from processed sewage is converted into electricity that powers the facility. Surplus energy is sent into the grid for use by local consumers. The ORC system reduces 20,000 tons of emissions per year and saves $600,000 CAD each year in energy costs. London received $4.5 million CAD from the Canada Community-Building Fund for the $11 million CAD project.
