The one-year pilot places county mental health workers at five City of Los Angeles fire stations. Emergency calls primarily dealing with mental health issues lead to pilot team responses. The parties involved in the call may be referred to treatment facilities rather than emergency rooms that are ill-suited for psychological treatment. The Therapeutic Transportation Pilot Program allows the city and county to better allocate emergency personnel and improve care.
