Hampshire County Council, GB Social Worker Emergency Calls
The council and the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) collaborated on the one-year pilot. A council social worker partnered with a SCAS 999 call dispatcher to find alternatives to hospital admissions in non-emergency situations. Emergency service personnel provided medical care as necessary before the social worker evaluated long-term service needs. The pilot diverted 580 cases from emergency rooms to social services in its first eight months.
