New York, NY collaborates with Volunteers of America on housing-first pilot for unhoused residents
New York, NY Volunteers of America Housing-First Pilot
Eighty unhoused residents at the Bronx Welcome Center were offered spaces in city-owned supportive housing units. The region's VOA chapter provides services based on resident needs including health referrals, life skills training, and food assistance. New York City is financing a trial period of up to eight months while seeking state and federal aid. The results of the pilot may lead city officials to adopt housing-first principles for 2,600 vacant supportive housing units.
