Town officials partnered with the North Carolina Department of Transportation on the three-month CASSI pilot. An eight-seat, all-electric Navya shuttle completes four stops between the Community Center and the Senior Center each weekday. The CASSI operates at a maximum speed of 12 miles per hour. Autonomous operation is made possible by using LiDAR, GPS, and live video footage with an onboard attendant available for manual operation if necessary.

The Town of Cary is launching a $2 million project to upgrade its traffic control system with IoT connectivity. By using the new cellular vehicle-to-everything network (C-V2X Network), emergency vehicles will be able to safely control traffic signals. Durham, NC takes lead on multi-city analysis of 911 calls for improved public safety responses

Durham officials are working with RTI International and Arnold Ventures to analyze 911 calls for service (CFS) from seven regional cities. The 18-month review will use data from local law enforcement on the types and scale of CFS responses. This analysis will lead to recommended responses aligned with real-world situations. Project participants will design CFS situations better resolved by non-emergency teams and departments than police officers.
