Miami, FL is partnering with PlanetWatch to deploy air quality sensors with blockchain technology
The city of Miami has partnered with PlanetWatch to deploy a network of decentralized air quality monitoring sensors built on the Algorand blockchain. Residents can voluntarily host the air quality sensors to collect green data and receive "Planets" tokens as compensation which can be redeemed for discounted products and services. The information gathered will be used to detect pollution hotspots and provide a database of environmental analytics to help protect the health of Miami’s residents.

Miami, FL becomes the first U.S. city to use CityCoin cryptocurrency with launch of MiamiCoin ($MIA)
The City of Miami launched MiamiCoin ($MIA), its own version of the CityCoin, making it the first in the United States to use its own cryptocurrency. CityCoin is a programmable city-based token designed to generate a community-driven revenue stream and expand the economy for local governments. Users mining for MiamiCoin receive 70% if the reward for each decrypted block and the remaining 30% goes toward the city's budget to support local projects and infrastructure development.

The City of Miami partnered with IKE Smart City to install 150 interactive, digital touchscreen kiosks in order to upgrade the pedestrian experience and deliver widespread connectivity. Each kiosk acts as a free wi-fi hotspot that displays information specific to the surrounding area including detailed wayfinding, events, job listings, social services, etc. The kiosks are delivered, operated, and maintained by IKE Smart City funded by advertising content displayed when the kiosks are inactive.

Miami, FL is adding three miles of concrete protected micro-mobility lanes using e-scooters fees
The City of Miami is adding three miles of protected bike and scooter lanes along busy downtown corridors. The city will install concrete barriers along the new lanes and add pedestrian ramps to adjacent sidewalks. The city will also be upgrading every pedestrian crossing in the affected area in order to maximize visibility. The upgrades will cost approximately $2 million with half being covered by the city's micro-mobility fund and the other half paid for with road impact fees.

The eStart app houses a guided tour of how to open a business in the city. A combined application for a company's Certificate of Use and Business Tax Receipt is included in eStart. This web app also offers an interactive zoning tool that shows what types of businesses are allowed at a proposed site. The city's Department of Innovation and Technology worked with OpenCounter to incorporate business community feedback during the app's development.
