Rockhampton, QLD determines the viability of organic waste recycling with curbside collection pilot

Rockhampton Council will choose 750 households in three areas for organic waste collections. Trial areas will represent diverse property types, street layouts, and demographics to generate data for program development. Randomly selected households receive bins for either food and yard waste or yard-only waste. Council officials hope to divert approximately 50% of organic waste sent to landfills while creating new jobs at processing facilities.

Rockhampton, QLD builds momentum for eNotice signups with shopping voucher drawing

The council held a drawing for a $500 AUD voucher to a local shop of the winner's choice. Each entry was created when a resident signed up for eNotices of council bills rather than mailed statements. Rockhampton residents can pay bills ranging from animal registration fees to property taxes online with eNotices. Council leaders introduced the drawing to reduce paperwork and improve the timeliness of bill payments while supporting a lucky resident around Christmas.

Rockhampton, QLD develops smart parking system in its Central Business District

Visitors to the council's CBD can find and pay for parking through the PayStay app. Parking vacancies near shops and offices are updated live thanks to 500 in-ground sensors. The sensors use solar-powered devices in local sign poles to connect with PayStay via public Wi-Fi. This system identifies available unloading zones and assists with parking enforcement. Council officials approved digital signs outside of car parks to indicate vacancies for those without the app.
