Tilburg, NB experiments with GreenPee sustainable urinal in effort to reduce public urination
City officials sought a solution for frequent complaints of public urination in the Besterd. The GreenPee urinal was installed on Leonard van Vechelstraat for a one-year pilot. Passersby who may otherwise urinate on sidewalks are directed by signs to the station. Collected urine combines with hemp fibers to produce fertilizer within the urinal. Tilburg will evaluate the impacts of GreenPee's technology on cleanliness before deciding on its continued use.

Tilburg, NB generates ideas for gas-free heating through citywide engagement campaign
Municipal leaders are working with residents on a Heat Transition Vision for low-emissions, low-cost heating. Tilburg convened a 20-person community forum called TilburgerTafel Nieuwe Energie that will produce recommendations for the city council. Tilburg is using a citywide online survey along with a forum of local businesses and organizations for additional feedback by the end of 2021. Neighborhood groups will work on localized implementation efforts in 2022.

The city worked with Sobolt to inform 1,000 households in the village of Udenhout of their participation. Sobolt used thermal infrared cameras to take street-view photos of each home. These photos color-contrasted heat lost through poor insulation with cold exterior temperatures. Tilburg sent photos and recommendations for improved heat retention to homeowners. City leaders may replicate this project in other villages to reduce the burdens of home energy costs.

Tilburg residents used the Litterati app to track litter picked up during the month-long competition.
