Council officials introduced the machine to fill the gap left by limited office hours at its stores department. Employees can order respirators, gloves, and hand sanitizer 24 hours a day. The Blackwoods vending machine automatically reorders items with low supplies and monitors usage patterns. The project improved staff compliance with public health recommendations, reduced supply hoarding, and cut the costs of last-minute purchases at local stores.

Canada Bay, NSW connects sensors to wireless network in smart bin pilot

Ninety-five public garbage bins from Meshed are equipped with sensors that detect bin capacity and temperature. Real-time data are sent on the Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) to city officials. This one-year pilot allows council teams to improve response times while creating a public Wi-Fi network. Canada Bay will consider expanding its smart bin network at the conclusion of the pilot.
