Toledo, OH devotes federal ARPA funds to medical debt relief program with Lucas County
Toledo and Lucas County split the program's cost of $1.6 million to relieve debt for 41,000 residents. Project partner RIP Medical Debt will purchase debt from hospitals in the county. Each dollar of program spending typically acquires $100 in medical debt, thus eliminating a significant financial concern for local households. Residents with medical debt at participating hospitals and earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level are automatically enrolled in the program.
