The City of Lakeland is partnering with Orlando-based Summit Broadband Inc. to create a private-public high-speed broadband service. According to the ten-year contract, Summit Broadband will invest $20 million to expand the city's dark fiber network, contribute $20,000 annually toward bridging the digital divide, and the city will receive 10% of the gross revenue or a minimum of $144,000 each year. The first 13 customers will be minority-owned businesses that currently lack internet service.
