Scarborough Borough Council, GB tests fleet use of vegetable oil for reduced emissions and costs
Borough officials identified fleet emissions as the largest source of emissions in council operations. Two-thirds of the fleet switched from diesel to hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) for a one-year pilot. This project did not require additional infrastructure or vehicle conversions as compared to electric vehicle purchases. Additional features of HVO adoption include the reuse of local restaurant waste, the absence of fumes, and the elimination of fuel additives like palm oil.
