St Louis, MO combined police and fire emergency call center
The City of St. Louis is planning to combine its police and fire emergency call centers into one unit under the St. Louis Emergency Management Agency. The city's current 911 system creates a bottleneck by requiring the police dispatch center to transfer calls to the fire department and remain on the line throughout the calls. The new combined system would have the departments use a shared up-to-date 911 software.
