Campbelltown, NSW organizes community groups for conservation efforts with Platypus Pals program

Platypus Pals started with volunteer collections of environmental DNA (eDNA) from the Upper Georges River. These samples identified small populations of platypus and Macquarie perch threatened by human activities. Campbelltown placed signs near habitats identified by eDNA with tips on protecting wildlife. Platypus Pals continues through community use of the PlatypuSPOT monitoring app and workshops about platypus conservation.

Campbelltown, NSW improves air quality with Breathing Wall pilot

The Breathing Wall is a 40-meter structure built from vertical plant modules. Campbelltown worked with Junglefy to customize the wall for the high-traffic Campbelltown Station area. Wollondilly, NSW and fellow Western Parkland members pursue cross-council Sensor Network project

Wollondilly led the eight-council group on the multi-year development of a shared IoT network. The Sensor Network publishes real-time data on air quality, pedestrian flows, sports ground conditions, and water quality on public dashboards. The councils worked with Sydney Water on incorporating the utility's IoT devices for a fuller picture of local conditions. Long-term applications of network data range from reducing urban heat islands to the conservation of local waterways.
