The Mayor of Nashville wants to address the lack of a local Department of Transportation by restructuring departmental responsibilities. The mayor submitted a Memorandum of Understanding to the Metro Council which proposes moving waste management duties from Metro Public works to Metro Water. If approved, the proposal would allow Metro Public Works to focus solely on transit. Then officially rebranding it into the Department of Transportation would require a Metro Charter amendment.
