The new approach compared daily consumption in each service zone with average consumption over the previous three days. Watercare alerted the council when water plants reached 80% of production capacity, thus triggering conservation measures. Waikato District Council used localized data for improved transparency on water supply and demand as well as targeted communications.

Data-based approach means fewer water restrictions in Waikato

For the first time in many years, communities in many parts of Waikato have had a summer free of water restrictions, despite it being as hot and dry as ever. This is thanks to a new insights-based, collaborative approach to manage demand in the Waikato District, achieved through Council partnership with Watercare.
