Cincinnati, OH Alternative Response to Crisis pilot focuses on de-escalation during 911 calls
Cincinnati, OH Alternative Response to Crisis Pilot
Emergency dispatchers were trained in mental health first aid and used de-escalation efforts with responders en route. This training included rerouting callers to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline on a case-by-case basis. An ARC Response Team staffed by a behavioral health specialist and a Fire Department paramedic replaced police responses for wellness checks. Cincinnati created a dashboard about ARC runs searchable by date, neighborhood, and issue.
