Jersey City, NJ Our City Our Say Participatory Budgeting

Jersey City allocated $300,000 for the pilot with funds evenly split among six wards. Residents submit their proposals for neighborhood improvement projects with the help of virtual tutorials. City departments evaluate applications based on their potential impacts and if they fit within a $50,000 budget. The review process consolidates similar ideas and produces a list of finalists for a public vote. Winning projects receive some or all of their ward's funds for implementation.
