City officials approved a chatbot as part of a broader strategy for reduced call volumes and wait times. The bot was built on the Microsoft Bot Framework by council staffers. Residents select the blue chat bubble on the city website for automated assistance in four areas - new waste bins, missed bin collections, tenancy changes, and unwanted item collections. Future iterations of the chatbot based on pilot feedback will integrate with other city departments.
