Oakland, CA MACRO civilian crisis response program

Planificación

The City of Oakland is launching a one-year pilot of the Mobile Assistance Community Responders (MACRO) program which reimagines public safety. The new program will send unarmed civilians with medical and mental health training to respond to non-violent emergency calls instead of the police. The Oakland Fire Department will run the program using the existing 911 dispatch system and county EMTs and mental health experts will be contracted as the civilian responder volunteers.

City of Oakland launches MACRO civilian crisis response team to handle nonviolent mental health calls - ABC7 San Francisco

The Oakland City council voted to create the Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland. The creation of the civilian crisis response team means police will no longer respond to non-violent 9-1-1 calls for help involving a mental health crisis.
