Selwyn District Council deployed a contamination crew to help residents improve their recycling habits. The team audits the contents of household recycling bins to determine the level of contamination. When contamination levels are low, the team leaves a note on the bin explaining which items are non-recyclable. When contamination levels are high, the bin is not collected and the household will be advised directly. In extreme cases, the team will remove bins from households.
