London Borough of Waltham Forest, GB works toward eco-friendly practices in Low Plastic Zone

London Borough of Waltham Forest, GB Low Plastic Zone

En cours

Participants based in Leytonstone Town Centre sign Charters of Commitment and replace at least one single-use item like bags and cups. Council officials help businesses engage customers in less wasteful practices like foregoing plastic-wrapped produce and coffee stirrers. A Low Plastic Zone certification and sticker provide evidence of a company's eco-friendly practices. Leytonstone can achieve plastic-free zone status if more than half of local businesses complete the program.

Pilot Project: Leytonstone Low Plastic Zone for businesses Plastic pollution is a major concern for the environment. Plastic is not only a waste and littering issue; it often finds its way into waterways and oceans, releasing toxic chemicals before breaking down. Birds and animals in the sea mistakenly eat plastics or feed plastics to their offspring or get entangled plastic, leading to a great loss of life. Many customers are concerned about these issues and will use their purchasing power to go to outlets that are making efforts to reduce single use plastic.
