Dublin City Council is preparing its AI strategy for publication in Q3 2026, combining a two-tier governance structure, mandatory staff training, and Ireland's first Generative AI Lab dedicated to local government. The lab gives staff a structured environment to test AI tools and develop use cases before wider deployment. The strategy prioritises human oversight, transparency, privacy, fairness, accountability, and security from the outset.

The Dublin City Council’s Smart Cities team is actively developing a local digital twin of the Docklands area. The project builds on a publicly available digital twin model, allowing users to interact with it, provide feedback on urban planning decisions, and report local issues. The model includes six layers: terrain, buildings, infrastructure, mobility, IoT devices, and a digital layer that feeds data to the virtual twin for simulations like flooding and crowd movement.

Peel X developed the DiscovAR Dublin feature with Google Maps as an immersive experience for users worldwide. Travelers and virtual visitors navigate a 3D city map, select buildings to explore, and learn about Dublin's rich history. DiscovAR Dublin promotes the city as a tourist destination and makes its attractions accessible.

Dublin City Council and Fáilte Ireland collaborated on an augmented reality experience for destinations along the River Liffey. The app offers main, extended, and accessible routes ranging from 3.75 kilometers to 5 kilometers for the Doors into Docklands trail. App users download all of the necessary data at the trail's origin. Doors into Docklands presents narrations by costumed actors, animations about engineering projects, and immersive experiences in historical buildings.
