Galway County Council, IE turns an extensive digital mapping project into the Graveyard Search App
Drone mapping of burial sites and trained volunteer surveying resulted in accurate records for 40,000 memorials. This information was fed into the Graveyard Search App for easy online access. App users search for memorials by graveyard location, names, or years of death. Each entry includes the memorial type and a complete record of the inscription. County officials are working with the Heritage Council and the Open Data Engagement Fund on expanded memorial mapping.

Galway County Council, IE coordinates emergency weather responses by building SWEMS platform
The county used in-house resources in the development of the Severe Weather Event Management System (SWEMS). Weather data, incident reports, and other inputs across council departments are simultaneously processed by the platform. Staff and resident reports during weather events trigger localized messaging, social media posts, and rapid mobilization of council resources. SWEMS replaced a siloed approach to emergency management that slowed response times and public alerts.
