Gelsenkirchen, NW created a literature scholarship to strengthen its cultural infrastructure
The City of Gelsenkirchen partnered with the Urban Renewal Society and the Gelsenwasser Foundation to create a literature grant scholarship. The scholarship offers an author the opportunity to move rent-free into an apartment for three months to write creative pieces inspired by the city. The scholarship recipient receives 1,500 euros per month, a travel allowance, and a free ticket for local transport. The city created the scholarship to strengthen its cultural infrastructure.

Gelsenkirchen, NW partnered with Bird, Tier, and Spin to deploy a fleet of 750 e-scooters
The City of Gelsenkirchen partnered with the micro-mobility companies Bird, Tier, and Spin to deploy a fleet of 750 e-scooters. The city has prohibited scooter parking in specific zones to prevent disruptions including parks, green spaces, nature reserves and pedestrian zones. The e-scooters can be booked through the respective providers and their apps. Each provider signed a contract with the city agreeing to comply with these no-parking zones.
