Onkaparinga, SA collaborates with other councils on renewable energy hub at shared landfill
Onkaparinga, Holdfast Bay, and Marion invested in solar and biogas energy at the Southern Region Waste Resource Authority (SRWRA) landfill. The 1,780-panel installation and the biogas plant produce up to 25,000 megawatts of electricity per year. Council officials estimate the landfill creates enough electricity to power 4,400 homes. The SRWRA landfill achieves emission-neutral operations by eliminating 135,000 tons of greenhouse gases each year.

+1Charles Sturt, SA works with neighboring councils on electric vehicle charging network
Charles Sturt, Marion, and Port Adelaide Enfield are partnering with Jolt to add 21 EV access points in 2021. Each charger is powered by solar energy and offers up to 7 kilowatt-hours of free electricity per vehicle. This charge can power the average plug-in vehicle for up to 45 kilometers. This group of councils is working with Australian Renewable Energy Agency on charger rollout. Council leaders in Charles Sturt plan at least 15 EV chargers within city limits by 2025.
