Sault Ste. Marie, ON is developing Canada's first community-wide smart energy grid
The City of Sault Ste. Marie is partnering with Puc Distribution to develop Canada's first community-wide smart grid. The Sault Smart Grid Project will implement various integrated technologies including voltage optimization, distribution automation and advanced metering infrastructure. The smart grid will reduce energy consumption and costs, improve data reporting systems, and reduce carbon emissions by 2,804 tonnes annually.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie launched the Virtual City Hall portal for online tax services. Virtual City Hall allows property and business owners to instantly access their tax accounts, balances, transactions and assessments. The portal was designed to enhance efficiency by streamlining the tax process for users and the Tax Department. New users can activate an account online using the Tax Roll number and Customer ID number found on their tax bill.

Sault Ste. Marie, ON launched an online service for reserving municipal facilities in advance
The City of Sault Ste. Marie launched an online facility reservations service for its residents. Any adult with a valid local residential address can use this service to reserve municipal facilities up to two months in advance. Additionally, this service allows residents to enroll in community classes, sign up for activities, and purchases passes for the community pool. The service has been temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
