Columbia, MO approves $41.8M smart meter program for electric and water utilities

106,739 electric and water meters to be replaced

Columbia City Council voted Sept. 21 to authorize a $41.8 million Advanced Metering Infrastructure program with Ameresco for its city-owned electric and water utilities. The project will replace 53,992 electric and 52,747 water meters, with equipment orders in October and installation beginning in spring 2027. City officials project more than $71 million in benefits over 15 years.
