Charleston, SC creates drainage basins to improve the flow of stormwater and reduce flooding

Charleston, SC stormwater drainage improvement project

The City of Charleston estimates that its stormwater drainage improvement project will result in a 500% increase in the flow of stormwater reducing flooding and protecting landscapes. The project has been ongoing for 8 years and involves creating drainage basins by digging vertical passageways connected to surface pipes. By creating a new outfall for stormwater the city will increase flowrate by up to seven times its existing capabilities.
