Coral Gables, FL deploys drones designed to monitor large crowds and respond to emergencies
The city of Coral Gables partnered with security services company, Bond, to launch a program that deploys drones to monitor large crowds and quickly responds to 911 emergency calls before first responders are able to arrive. The drone technology is faster, cheaper and less intrusive and can provide an assessment of the seriousness of emergency situations and identify suspects prior to the arrival of first responders.

Coral Gables, FL turns a street light into a smart device with Smart City Pole Pilot Project
An Ekins Spotter smart pole was customized by the manufacturer to withstand high winds as required by state law. Internal sensors collect temperature, air quality, and other climate data from downtown Coral Gables. City staffers rely on the pole's traffic cameras and computer vision to observe traffic on Alhambra Circle around the clock. The Spotter includes public Wi-Fi capabilities that provide free connectivity for nearby users.

The Smart City Hub contains transparency portals on topics ranging from public police records to city lobbyists. A Traffic Awareness Dashboard tracks current road closures, crashes, and traffic jams in an easy-to-use format. City staffers maintain an app store in the hub including supported apps like Orchid Tracker and ParkMe. Interested parties can also research foot and vehicle traffic generated by IoT sensors from the hub's display panels.
