Coventry City Council, GB Project SAVOR tests autonomous vehicles in city center traffic

Project SAVOR consisted of two weeks of real-world autonomous vehicle testing. A Ford Ranger and a Nissan ENV200 were equipped with Conigital's ConiCAV system for Gosford Street trips. Remote operators monitored vehicle performance through challenges like a diamond interchange. Each vehicle also had a driver on board in case of technical problems. Project partners Coventry University and Applus IDIADA are evaluating how the city can support autonomous driving in the future.

Coventry City Council, GB encourages low-emission transit options with Mobility Credits pilot

Project leaders are evaluating how different incentives can reduce traffic congestion and emissions. The two-year pilot invites households in high-pollution areas of Coventry to scrap their cars for £3,000 cards. Initial participants in the program were limited to using their cards for public transit, rideshares, bike shares, and car clubs. Coventry and Transport for West Midlands expanded the program to allow bike purchases of up to 50% of the card's value.

Coventry City Council, GB develops all-electric bus fleet in partnership with national government

Coventry and Oxford were selected to become the United Kingdom's first local governments with all-electric fleets. Each government receives £50 million for plug-in buses and equipment to be implemented by 2025. Local officials will use additional funds for ride-share programs in outlying areas, high-frequent bus lanes, and other initiatives. The switch to all-electric buses allows both councils to meet emission and air quality goals while upgrading public transit.

Coventry and Connected Kerb added 30 Gecko stations to street parking spots on Holyhead Road. EV owners locate and pay for charger use through the Connected Kerb app. Each station also features an air quality monitor to track local emissions. Connected Kerb is working on EV leasing programs to increase low-emission vehicle use by Coventry residents. This pilot responds to the neighborhood's poor air quality and limited at-home charging infrastructure.
