2017 CASQA Award Winner - Outstanding Retrofit Sustainable Stormwater Project: Los Amigos Park Stormwater Harvesting and Direct Use Demonstration | CASQA - California Stormwater Quality Association

The Los Amigos Park Stormwater Harvesting and Direct Use Demonstration project taps into an existing storm drain line running under an adjacent city street along a school athletic field and the City of Santa Monica’s Los Amigos Park, routes stormwater and dry-weather flows from the storm drain through a vortex system using a diversion structure into a subsurface water-tight cistern, treats the stormwater and dry-weather runoff with an ultraviolet (UV) treatment system, and delivers highly treated water to the park irrigation system and indoor plumbing system for toilet flushing.&n

The City of Santa Monica continues to be a leader in moving toward water self-sufficiency, promoting water conservation, and reducing potable water use. During National Public Works Week, on May 23rd, the City will officially open the Los Amigos Park Stormwater Harvesting and Direct Use Demonstration Project, a collaboration with the Santa Monica-Malibu School District and the Metropolitan Water District (MWD). This project marks another first in infrastructure advancement. Los Amigos is the first retrofit project to harvest offsite wet and dry weather runoff from an adjacent, existing storm drain for multiple beneficial uses, such as restroom toilet flushing and the irrigation of athletic fields. The project was financed by a grant from MWD and the Clean Beaches & Ocean Parcel Tax (Measure V).

Projeto foi bem sucedido

The project stored over 53,000 gallons and offset 550,000 gallons of potable water use by treating stormwater and dry-weather runoff annually on site.
