East Riding Archives first tested the app in 2019 and introduced an AR-enabled update to increase interactivity. App users hold their phones in front of 21 heritage locations in the search for photos from the region's past. The app includes an audio commentary for each location and quizzes about regional history. Council leaders attracted What Was Here? app feedback with a drawing for an Amazon Echo Dot based on survey responses.
